AS Roma have completed the signing of Jamaican winger Leon Bailey from Aston Villa on a season-long loan, with an option to buy set at €22m. The Serie A club will pay a loan fee of around €2m and cover Bailey’s wages for the duration of the deal.

Bailey, 28, becomes the first Jamaican footballer in Roma’s history. Born in Kingston, he moved to Europe at the age of 13 and has previously played for Genk, Bayer Leverkusen, and Aston Villa. Across his professional career, he has made 377 appearances and scored 76 goals in domestic and international competitions.

Upon arriving in Rome, Bailey expressed his excitement, shouting “Forza Roma!” to the crowd of supporters at the airport. Roma’s new head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, has identified the winger as a key addition to strengthen the team’s attacking options ahead of the new season.
