Former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has emerged as a candidate for Fenerbahce and Bayer Leverkusen. Erik ten Hag lasted two league games at Bayer Leverkusen after tension with the hierarchy over signings and the direction of the club, which was headed in a downward spiral. The former Manchester United boss had taken over from the successful Xabi Alonso this summer following his departure to Real Madrid and now the club need to find a replacement. Similarly, Jose Mourinho was sacked by Fenerbahçe earlier this month, after just 14 months in charge. The decision was made following the Istanbul outfit’s 1-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League play-off tie which the board felt wasn’t good enough. Inter Milan has signed versatile defender Manuel Akanji on loan from Manchester City, looking to strengthen its backline following a 2-1 loss to Udinese in Serie A at the weekend. Inter’s defensive weaknesses were also exposed in the humiliating 5-0 rout by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last season. Inter announced the move on Tuesday, saying that the deal includes an option for a permanent signing, “which will become an obligation if certain conditions are met.” The 30-year-old Akanji was a favorite of Pep Guardiola’s when City won a treble in 2023 but was part of a clear-out as the English club has recruited younger players recently. Akanji is usually a center back but the Switzerland international can also play at both fullback positions. Olympique Marseille have finalised the signing of French defender Benjamin Pavard from Inter Milan on a loan deal with an option to buy, with the 29-year-old signing a contract until June 2029 (one-year loan plus a three-year extension). Pavard, who completed his medical on September 1, 2025, joins Marseille for a €2.5 million loan fee and a €15 million buy option, with his salary fully covered. Ilkay Gundogan on Tuesday signed for Galatasaray from Manchester City on a free transfer, both teams announced. The 34-year-old has agreed a deal until the end of the 2026-27 season with the Turkish champions. “Manchester City will always hold a special place in my heart,” said Gundogan, who played 358 games in two spells at City, scoring 65 goals. “We have enjoyed so much success in our time together and there have been so many unforgettable moments, not least being captain for the Treble-winning season. “To win the Premier League and FA Cup trophies meant so much to me, but to then be afforded the opportunity of lifting the Champions League trophy for this club for the first time, especially in Istanbul, will live with me forever. “I have no doubts Manchester City will enjoy much more success in the future and I will certainly be watching on from afar as I continue my career in Turkey, a country that means ever such a lot to me.” Gundogan, who was born in Germany to Turkish parents, was Pep Guardiola’s first signing for City in 2016 and spent seven years there before joining Barcelona on a free transfer in 2023. Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has completed his season-long loan move to Aston Villa on transfer deadline day. Elliott underwent a medical in Birmingham on Monday afternoon and has now formally ratified his loan switch to Villa Park. The England Under-21 international will join Unai Emery’s side for the remainder of the campaign with the Villans obligated to pay £35m to make the move a permanent one next year. Marc Guehi’s much-anticipated £35million move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool collapsed in dramatic fashion on transfer deadline day. Having been linked with a move to Anfield all summer, Palace finally accepted Liverpool’s bid for the England centre-back on the final day of the transfer window. Guehi was into the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and while he has continued to play for and captain the Eagles brilliantly, he had no intention of signing a new deal. Despite protests from manager Oliver Glasner, Palace chairman Steve Parish decided he had no choice but to cash-in on the 25-year-old rather than lose him for nothing next summer. But the transfer was contingent on the Eagles signing an experienced replacement and they appeared to have done so after agreeing to loan in Igor Julio from arch-rivals Brighton. With Igor arriving in south London, Guehi was granted permission to undergo his medical with Liverpool, who have also signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a Premier League record £130m. However, as the medical was taking place, Igor decided against the transfer and instead sought a move to West Ham, with some reports suggesting he was concerned about the amount of game time he would get under Glasner. Crystal Palace scrambled to find another centre-back option that could fill Guehi’s huge boots, with AC Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic the top target. Jaydee Canvot was signed from Toulouse for just over £20m but the teenager defender is viewed as a long-term addition not a direct replacement for Guehi. A deal sheet was submitted ahead of the 7pm deadline on Monday for Guehi’s transfer with the player completing the medical, but the final decision fell to Palace. And the south London club informed Liverpool that Guehi was no longer for sale, with the England defender now remaining at Selhurst Park until at least January. Before Palace pulled out of a deal with Liverpool, Paul Merson said Guehi would be the ‘signing of the summer’ for the Premier League champions. ‘Guehi is a brilliant player,’ he said on Sky sports ‘I really do think he’s a top centre-half – absolute class. Bayern Munich have agreed a deal to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea on an improved loan-to-buy deal. The two clubs are working on the finer details, Standard Sport understands, which will see Bayern pay a £14.3million loan fee, with a conditional obligation to buy for £56.3m. Talks progressed on Deadline Day, with Jackson still in Munich after flying from London to undergo a medical on Saturday. Bayern had agreed to a £13m loan fee, plus an option to buy, only to see Chelsea cancel the deal following an injury to Liam Delap which left Joao Pedro as the club’s only fit striker. Jackson had only just landed in Munich ahead of his medical when he was told he must return to London, but his agents dug their heels in and a deal has now been resurrected. Chelsea have instead recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland. Earlier on deadline day, Jackson’s agent Ali Barat said in a statement: “Nico was ready. Bayern was ready. We were all aligned on a world-class project. For the agreement to be withdrawn at the final moment is deeply frustrating. Werder Bremen has strengthened their team with a top player in Victor Boniface from the Bundesliga. As ‘Sky’ and ‘Fabrizio Romano’ just confirmed, the Hanseatic League is borrowing Victor Boniface from Bayer 04 Leverkusen until 2026. The attacker scored 22 goals and made 11 assists in 42 Bundesliga games for the Werkself. Yep, this sounds like a real transfer coup for Werder. Boniface is supposed to stay for one year initially. There doesn’t seem to be an option to buy, which would be utopian considering his market value of 40 million Euros. Last winter, Al-Nassr had offered 70 million Euros for him, but ultimately chose Jhon Durán. At Bayer Leverkusen, the 24-year-old lost his regular place and had to deal with injuries time and again.
